Traditions

Blog entry on a new Blogger site (http://collegekidswaitingroom.blogspot.com/ ) with an interesting questions . . .

Traditions . . . Traditions, can’t you just see him dancing on the roof ;)
I belong to a church where people often teach as doctrine the traditions of men, which Jesus condemned in Matthew 15:9. That’s when they’re distracting or downright irritating! Yet I found myself arguing with my traditional mother last night that we shouldn’t switch Xmas eve to Friday night this year because of . . . Gasp . . . tradition. We all have them & we all love some of them, but it comes down to what it often comes down to . . . can we respect and get to know one another well enough to share traditions that don’t mean anything to us . . . just because they mean something to someone else? Or are we so shallow that we can only share traditions that already have meaning to us? As Josh says, Traditions are a Great way to bond, but when we forget what they mean and honor the tradition for its own sake or we use them to exclude instead of include people, it’s time to shake things up a bit!
